Materials we use

Material choice starts with the way a part will be used. Heat, impact, repeated movement, outdoor exposure, and ordinary household use all influence whether a rigid or flexible filament is a good fit.

Materials from the brands below have been used in Lunar Prototypes work. Selection varies with the polymer, printer, part geometry, availability, and the properties each design requires.

Polymaker

Polymaker filament has been used for general-purpose rigid prints across prototypes and finished designs.

eSUN filament, specifically the PLA+ has been used for functional prints when its available material types and colors suit the part and its intended use.

Choosing material for a part

Each material selection considers the polymer, printer setup, part orientation, wall thickness, operating environment, and expected load. Testing the finished print helps connect the material’s properties to the way the actual part will be used.
